OUR HISTORY
Verified Water is a public-benefit corporation founded by the partners of Zanjero, Inc., a water resource consulting and engineering firm that helps NGOs, public water suppliers, government entities, ag, and private business on a regional, national, and international scale. Each partner brings more than 30 years of experience in the technical, legal, political and economic elements of sustainable water management.
While the high-level work at Zanjero has enabled our co-founders to strategize and solve many pressing water challenges over the years, they saw an untapped potential in the water world to do much more. Starting in the 2010s, co-founders Gwyn-Mohr Tully and Greg Young (at that time partners of the firm Tully & Young) began applying their legal and technical know-how to the anatomy of a water offset credit. They saw where many water resource managers and asset holders could–and wanted to–implement water sustainability actions. Often, the missing lever to enacting these water conservation and sustainability actions was an incentive or the needed enabling funds. At the same time, the carbon offset market was growing along with pressures across industry to mitigate GHG emissions. An understanding of the looming water crisis was largely missing from climate action dialogue.
Now, over a decade later, water action has arrived in the in part thanks to the tremendous efforts of leading NGOs, collaboratives, and government commitments such as United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Pioneers such as the Alliance for Water Stewardship, Pacific Institute, WWF, BEF, among others, have engaged public and private interests and pushed forward water action.
